Deep in the jungles of western Myanmar, an unconventional war wages on.
Villager Mgun Ling and his village use traps as their weapon. Their enemy: Rats.

Said Mgun Ling: "We can catch hundreds of rats a night, but it makes no difference. They just keep coming. They've destroyed all our crops, and now we have nothing left to eat."

Four months after Cyclone Nargis devastated Myanmar, the rat scourge is another disater to strike the country. Known in Myanmar as "maudam", the problem occurs once every 50 years or so, when the region's bamboo forest flowers and starts producint fruit.

The fruit attracts hordes of rats, and provides nourishment to cause the rodents to multiply quickly, creating an infestation.

The rats turn on the villagers' crops, destroying rice and corn. In a country once known as the rice bowl of Asia, thousands of villagers are on the brink of starvation.

The crisis is turning villages into ghost communities as villagers leave their homes in search of food, or a new life, in India.

Don't know whether the following story's really true or not of our government's the worst terrible inhumation like once upon a time of NAZI.. :(

"Cyclone badly injured victims buried alive during the night

The past months have been for me an eye opener to the reality inside Burma. For the past 4 weeks I did not expect improvements or change of heart from the generals. Once more, they have shown their selfish resistance towards humanity.

I just read the following news at Burma Digest and I hope this news can travel as far and fast as possible. I thank the Burma Digest team for releasing this news. The news start here.

After the cyclone swept lower Burma, much terrible news was coming out from Burma media about the plight of the victims and the bad behaviour of the SPDC but we had not yet read about one of the worst hidden news in any media.

This news came from the wives of colonels’ society in Yangon. One of the friends of a colonel’s wife told about the event which one of her friend (a colonel’ wife) told them when she was in Yangon.

After the cyclone hit, her husband, the colonel went out at night to serve night duty for every night and when she asked where he had went he was afraid to tell her. One night she asked her husband to allow her to follow him and at last she got a chance to follow her husband.

Several colonels gathered at night, at the same place like the other nights before they travelled by truck. Then they went to the area of the cyclone victims, then they picked up the heavily injured victims and put into their truck then drove away to the place which they had dug a big hole and threw them all together and buried them alive. When they picked up the people they lied that they will send them to the hospital but they did not do so. The colonel’s wife could not hold her tongue about the terrible event when she met with her friends.

º Another Cyclone Likely to Strike

Dhaka: The Bangladesh meteorological office said on Sunday in its long-range forecast for May that at least one cyclonic storm may develop from the depressions in the Bay of Bengal this month.

The forecast was issued by the meteorological office after a meeting of experts.

The cyclone, if it forms in the Bay, would be called ABC, from a panel of code names selected for cyclones in the Bay of Bengal this year, a Bangladesh senior meteorologist and cyclone expert said.

Cyclone Nargis struck the Burma delta earlier this month and may have killed as many as 15,000 people. After Nargis, the meteorological office in Bangladesh is closely watching the weather patterns in the Bay of Bengal.

When cyclone Nargis formed in the Bay of Bengal, the Bangladesh authority also warned Bangladeshis about the cyclone via radio and multiple TV channels.

º International Aid Contributions List

AUSTRALIA: US $2.8 million in emergency aid to UN, with an extra $900,000 to aid agencies to provide shelter, water purification and food.

CANADA: Nearly $2 million distributed among the UN, International Red Cross and the World Food Program.

CHINA: $500,000 in cash, plus supplies such as tents, blankets and food.

CZECH REPUBLIC: $65,000 in aid.

EUROPEAN COMMISSION: $3 million for fast-track humanitarian aid.

FRANCE: $320,000 in aid.

GERMANY: $775,000 to German aid organizations to provide shelter, drinking water and mosquito nets.

GREECE: $300,000 plus an airlift of supplies.

INDIA: Two naval ships containing food, tents, blankets, clothing and medicine sent to Rangoon. Two aircraft carriers with supplies to leave for Burma on Wednesday.

INDONESIA: $1 million to UN, plus food, medicines and other humanitarian aid.

JAPAN: $267,570 in emergency aid and supplies to UN.

NEW ZEALAND: $394,000 direct to UN.

NORWAY: $2 million in aid.

SINGAPORE: $200,000 in humanitarian assistance, plus an offer to send rescue and medical teams.

SOUTH KOREA: $2.1 million in material aid, including tents, medicines and water-purifying chemicals.

SPAIN: $775,000 to the World Food Program for Burma.

SRI LANKA: $25,000 direct to Burmese government.

SWEDEN: Has pledged generators and other emergency equipment.

THAILAND: $100,000 direct to Burmese government, plus airlifts of food and medicine.

UNITED KINGDOM: $10 million for emergency relief efforts.

UNITED STATES: $3 million through the US Agency for International Development (USAID), from an initial $250,000 in emergency aid.
